Hamid Noori, nicknamed "Abbasi", judicial prosecutor of Gohardasht and Evin prisons and one of the main executors of the 1988 massacre was arrested on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Stockholm international airport, Sweden on charges of crimes against humanity and participation in the summer of 1988 mass killing. Ms. Carolina Vebslander, the prosecutor asked the court to extend his detention for four weeks so that his accusers will be able to collect and provide necessary documents for a just trial.
In the summer of 1988, the Islamic Republic, at the direct order of Khomeini and with the direct participation of Ebrahim Raisi, Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Morteza Eshraqi and Hosseinali Nayeri, several thousands of political prisoners were massacred. Since then human rights activists, democratic institutions, and political parties and in front of all, families of the victims with their tireless efforts have tried to break the Islamic Republic's murderer authorities silence and not to let this crime against humanity be forgotten. Through the course of years, the victims' families and all those who were exasperated by this massacre have not neglected any efforts to find the truth and bring the criminals to justice. In recent years, as a result of this relentless campaign and under pressure, the Islamic Republic’s main leaders, had to confess to committing the crime but tried to justify it.
Now, one of the main anchors of this tragedy has been captured at the Stockholm airport and imprisoned on suspicion of involvement in these killings. If his court can independently proceed on the issue, Hamid Noori would be the first individual to be tried and brought to justice because of his involvement in committing horrific crimes in the Iranian prisons.
Summer of 1988 Killing, without doubt was a crime against humanity that took place in the national dimensions and has rightly been called "National Calamity". Way to deal with it should also be pursued on a national scale. Success in this case, could be a message to the rulers of the Islamic Republic to know that there is no unpunished crime. The Swedish judicial authorities’ action in this case can be a starting point for prosecuting all the murderers in the Islamic Republic. The despotic rulers in power must know that the world is very small for criminals to escape and the field for executing justice is getting wider every day. Success in this area strengthen the fighting spirit of people and families of those killed by the Islamic Republic’s rulers and a blow to all those responsible for the repression and killing of people around the world. All those who have been complicit in the crimes of the Islamic Republic should know that fate of Hamid Noori will sooner or later be their own destiny.
The Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) supports the action of the Swedish Ministry of Justice for the arrest of one of the perpetrators of the 1988 mass killings on charges of crimes against humanity and calls on members and friends of the party to do their part with cooperating with the judicial authorities of the Swedish government in executing justice. We call on political parties and human rights and democratic organizations to assist the process of a fair trial with their joint cooperation. At the same, we warn the Swedish government for intervention of the Islamic Republic in the course of the trial, like the Court of Mykonos in Berlin, in France and Austria in the investigation into the assassination carried out abroad by the Islamic Republic. The Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) is hopeful of a fair conclusion to the process of this trial. We and all those who seek justice expect that the Swedish Ministry of Justice, which is known for its independency, provide the necessary opportunity and time to the witnesses and relatives of the victims to provide evidence.
