Death penalty against protesters must be revoked!

۱۰ تير ۱۳۹۹

Confirmation of the death sentences and the threat of further actions against the thousands of protesters who were detained during the November protests and remain in prison indicate the government's fear of other uprisings.

Joint statement:

Death penalty against protesters must be revoked!

On 24th of June, it was announced that the Supreme Court in Iran had upheld the death sentences of three detainees of the November 2009 protests, Amir Hossein Moradi, Saeed Tamjidi, and Mohammad Rajabi.

Later at a Friday prayer, the Chief Justice of Isfahan Province also announced similar sentences against eight detainees and threatened similar actions for other protesters.

They were originally sentenced to death on March 24, 2010 in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on charges of "participation in destruction and incitement to oppose the Islamic Republic of Iran."

They were also sentenced to prison and flogging for "armed robbery." Saeed and Mohammad have told their families that they have been subjected to torture and self-indictment, including "contact with the People's Mujahidin". Meanwhile, Amnesty International called the death sentences for the three "extremely unfair" and called for the sentences to be overturned.

Seven months since the bloody repression of the people's protests in November 2019 the Islamic Republic of Iran still avoids declaring the actual number of killings, and while human rights organizations and news agencies have cited sources from within the government as the number of victims of government killings between 340 to 1,500.

Confirmation of the death sentences and the threat of further actions against the thousands of protesters who were detained during the November protests and remain in prison indicate the government's fear of other uprisings.

According to the leaders of the Islamic Republic revelation one person gets Covid 19 every 33 seconds, and one person dies every 13 minutes from the corona epidemic.

We strongly condemn the execution of political prisoners, the verdict of death sentences against the detainees of the November protests, and the threat of further repression. Execution sentences must be overturned, threats must be stopped, and all political prisoners must be released unconditionally. We call on human rights organizations and institutions to protest against the use of torture in prisons in the Islamic Republic, the death sentences against those arrested in November, and other political and civil activists. The detainees of November 2019 protests must be released immediately!
