Releasing Hamid Nouri, Freeing Another Criminal, Repeated Encouragement for the Hostage-Taking Policy of the Islamic Republic!

June 16, 2024

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Hamid Nouri, one of the perpetrators of the massacre in the prisons of the Islamic Republic in 1988, who was sentenced to life imprisonment after several months of trial in Sweden, following a deal between the Swedish government and the Islamic Republic, in exchange for the release of two hostages of this country in Iran, was released and arrived in Tehran. The release of Hamid Nouri is not the first deal of this kind with the regime of the Islamic Republic. In June of last year, the Belgian government, in a similar deal with the Islamic Republic, released the terrorist diplomat of the Islamic Republic, Asadullah Asadi, who was convicted in the court, from prison and sent him to Tehran.

The Islamic Republic always uses a well-known method in these dealings. First, it takes hostages of the citizens of the country in question and then uses these hostages to release his imprisoned terrorists and criminals. Unfortunately, Western governments have always given in to it without exception for any reason. Not only have they not dealt with the official and governmental hostage-taking policy of the Islamic Republic, but they have actually obeyed this unconventional procedure in international relations. This procedure has left the hands of the murderers ruling our country free to continue their criminal actions inside and outside the borders and to continue and expand its dimensions. It is understandable that Hamid Nouri was exchanged with Swedish citizens and two people were released against his release, but the case of these hostage-takings and coercions of the Islamic Republic must be closed. Otherwise, we will witness the continuation of these bandit actions over and over. Agreeing to these deals will encourage the Islamic Republic to continue terror and conspiracy.

The release of Hamid Nouri and his return to Iran, while he was tried and convicted in a fair court, is a clear disrespect to the Swedish court verdict, international laws, human rights and thousands of grieving families who have left no stone unturned for decades to sue for the tragedy that befell them and have seen nothing but oppression, humiliation and insults from the murderous regime of the Islamic Republic. The trial of Hamid Nouri and the court that led to his conviction was their first and most important achievement and the beginning of opening the case of a major crime in the history of Iran and the world. Now, with this shameful action, the nectar of the first victory of Iran's litigants has taken on a bitter taste. The entire judicial system has been insulted and the Islamic Republic has achieved its goal, and after this, with more confidence, it will continue its criminal actions against freedom fighters, without worrying about its consequences inside and outside the country.

The Left Party of Iran condemns the release of Hamid Nouri. Our party considers this action as an insult to the Swedish judicial system, an insult to the families of the 1988 massacre in Iran's prisons, and an encouragement to the hostage-taking policy of the Islamic Republic. It is clear that the release of Hamid Nouri will not undermine the historical impact of his trial in a fair court, the trial in which not only Hamid Nouri, but the entire criminal regime of the Islamic Republic was accused, was unique in the history of Iranian people's lawsuits and will last forever. This trial showed that after this, none of the regime's killers will be able to travel to a free country and the fear of being arrested and tried in a fair court will always be on their heads. It is not too late for all the perpetrators of the 1988 massacre and other crimes of the Islamic Republic to be brought before the court and justice will be served on them.
