Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) on the 50th Anniversary of the Fadaian Movement:

The Iranian Left Needs a Unified Initiative

The Political and Executive Committee of the Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) has published a declaration on the 50th anniversary of the Fadaian movement in Iran. On february 8th, 1971, a newly established guerilla group occupied a police station in Siahkal in Northern Iran, to mark a new era in the fight against the dictatorship of shah Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi. His regime responded with brutal measures against the young Fadaian. In the days and weeks after the Siahkal event, 15 members of the new Fadaian movement were killed in action, sentenced to death, or shot by the forces of the Iranian government.

The declaration of the LPI-PF reminds that the Fadaian movement was founded to break the deadly silence imposed on the Iranian society after the 1953 coup by Anglo-American agents and their Iranian allies.

The LPI-PF considers itself as part of the world-wide Left. The party strives for the unified action of all forces of the Iranian left. The declaration of the LPI-PF points out that a strong left front currently exists in Iran; A force that beleives in freedom and democracy as well as social justice and socialism as the core of their believes.
