Unity is the urgent need of the Iranian left!

The Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) enters its fourth year of existence on March 30 of this year. On this day in 2018, with the convening of the Constituent Assembly, the achievement of the multi-year process of unification among the three components of the Iranian left was officially announced and the news of the emergence of a single party on the left had a relatively wide reflection among the political activists. We now continue to focus on the continuation and consolidation of party's unity by honoring the achievement of this unity and the satisfaction of years of effort in this direction.

During the past three years, the L P I (P F) has tried to introduce itself in the political sphere of the country by its views and actions in relation to various and important trends and events in the country, the region and the world along with showing a clear political image of the party. During these three years, we have tried to react to political events in Iran. There are no significant news that the Left Party has not announced its stand towards them. As a party that believes in the socialist ideal, we have tried to show the work in the field of peace, solidarity, freedom, democracy and social justice in the context of current developments in order to be publicly judged by these characteristics. However, we also emphasize that we still have a lot of work to do and we need to work harder to rise to the level of activism we desire.

From the very beginning, our party believing in the necessity of realizing the unity of the left, has been known to adhere to unity and has stood by this covenant. However, what is unquestionably important in the matter of cooperation until unification is to respond to the urgent need of the Iranian left in the field of alliances in any way possible. This include participating in joint struggles to permanent alliances and finally reaching to the level of unity wherever possible. We have repeatedly emphasized that the need for unity in the ranks of the left forces is more urgent than ever, given the sensitive situation in which the country is in.

The need for alignment, cooperation, alliances and unity in the left ranks of Iran is not limited to the intensity and sensitivity of the deepening conflicts between the poor and rich and the looters drowning in wealth and power in the country today. Rising poverty and intensification of economic and social gaps are now showing their consequences by growing the level of political struggle against the Islamic Republic. Our party was established shortly after the outbreak of public anger in more than 100 cities in the country in November, 2017 and a year and a half after its announcement, it witnessed the largest uprising of protesters against the Islamic Republic in November, 2019. These synchronicities have their own meaning and message. It is these street uprisings, combined with the ever growing of civil movements and the growing strikes of the working people that provide the base for the Left to transition from the Islamic Republic to a secular democratic republic; a society in which freedom, equality, law and social justice are inseparable components of its existence. It is imperative for the left to stand on such foundations.

This moment in the history of our country is explained by the fact that the Islamic Republic has plunged the country into a cycle of crises and has itself been heavily involved in all kinds of bottlenecks and facing super-crises. Hence, Iran is in the direction of major political developments and the inevitable transition from the Islamic Republic. As such, political efforts to influence developments among political forces and currents have gained a unique momentum. The current situation can be considered as the birth moment of serious changes and with the conclusion that the need for a more serious and effective left in the political arena is an urgent matter. In such a situation, the left must answer the crucial question of where it stands in relation to this decisive struggle and what plans it has for a strong presence on the scene. Our party's response is to expand urgent cooperation between the left forces and to create a left alliance for their joint political actions.

The L P I (P F) is currently preparing for its third congress, namely the founding congress, with the call for the cooperation of all left-wing forces and the hope for progress and success in this field. At the beginning of another year of our existence, we sincerely expect that the party's supporters strengthen their party, both by criticizing its performance and by joining its ranks. Stronger organizational unity and broad unity in the left ranks is our message and aspiration on this third anniversary of the party. To achieve this goal, we extend our hand to the egalitarian democratic left forces which are tirelessly pursuing the transition from the Islamic Republic to the establishment of democracy in the country. We warmly shake the hands of any activist and leftist movement that steps in this direction.
