Mr. Kaveh Madani, an Iranian researcher in the field of water and environment, was appointed as the next Director of the UNU Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) in Canada. He will assume this duty from the beginning of February 2023.
The United Nations University operates as a scientific and educational arm in the field of solving challenges related to the global problems of human survival, development, and welfare that are the concern of the United Nations, its Peoples, and Member States. The Institute of Water, Environment, and Health of this university in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, is one of the thirteen institutes of the United Nations University that is trying to solve these global problems.
Mr. Kaveh Madani, an Iranian scientist and environmental activist who worked tirelessly to spread awareness to inform and draw people's attention to environmental challenges, served Iran's environment for a brief time as the former vice president of Iran's Environmental Protection Organization, but the corrupt structure of the Islamic Republic deprived him of serving more.
After the arrest of several environmental activists, he was also arrested on charges of espionage, but fortunately, he managed to leave the country to play his effective and prominent role in raising awareness about the wrong policies of the Islamic Republic on water resources management and the environment and to increase public awareness of Iran's water and environmental crisis abroad.
The Environmental Working Group of the Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) congratulates Mr. Madani on his appointment to this position and wishes him success in achieving environmental goals.
