The 8th International Congress against the Death Penalty has awarded the "Robert Badinter" award to Nasrin Sotoudeh, defense lawyer, political prisoner and human rights activist of our country. This award is named after Robert Badinter, the French Minister of Justice in 1981, who played a key role in abolishing the death penalty in France. This congress was held this year in Berlin with the presence of 150 delegates from 128 countries in three days.

In her message to the 8th International Congress against the Death Penalty, Nasrin Sotoudeh asked "all the world and this Congress" that "in these difficult days that the regime unfairly put young people who have used their legal right to participate in the "Women, Life, Freedom" protests under the death sentence to be the eyes and ears of the right-seeking Iranians.”
She also emphasized that "these days, public opinion in Iran has come closer than ever before to the abolition of the death penalty and in line with the goals of the global human rights community to realize a life based on peace, justice and law." Therefore, we ask you as a reliable civil institution, to help us establish peace, justice and abolish the death penalty. May your support and companionship in conveying the cries of Iranians for justice be the beginning of the end of the death penalty."

Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer who defends political and civil prisoners and a human rights activist, has been imprisoned many times because of her activities and is still imprisoned. She is one of the leading figures against the death penalty and human rights violations in Iran. Awarding her this award by the International Congress against the Death Penalty is an international recognition of her efforts over the past several decades.

The Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) congratulates Ms. Sotoudeh on receiving the "Robert Badinter" award and appreciates her efforts to abolish the death penalty and defend human rights and political prisoners. International attention to her work in the field of defending human rights and the fight to abolish the death penalty, in this stormy period of our country where a revolution is going on, is a strong point for all the fighters for the country's freedom, especially for all the women and girls who are laying down their lives for their most basic rights in the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement and have been standing against one of the most repressive systems in history for more than two months and are fighting to get rid of the tyranny of the Islamic Republic and build a free future.
