The Main Responsible for the Death of Coal Mine Workers is the Islamic Republic!
The Double Profiteering of the Employer Led 51 Workers to Death!

September 23, 2024

Unfortunately, the accumulation and explosion of methane gas in the Tabas Coal Mine located in South Khorasan once again caused a tragedy and killed at least fifty-one workers out of 69 who were inside the mine during the explosion and injured the rest. The death of workers in the mine is not new, but this is the first time that workers are dragged to death in the mine in these scales. In terms of the number of victims, this tragedy broke the record of mine accidents in Iran. As reported in the reports, the cause of the explosion was the lack of ventilation and warning system and non-observance of safety principles and regulations by the employer. This is despite the fact that in the fourth chapter of the labor law, which is related to the safety and health protection regulations of the work environment (Articles 85 to 106), employers are obliged to implement this law and punishments have been considered for the violators. However, most of the employers with the support of the Islamic Republic have not followed this law for decades, and this refusal has caused the death of tens of thousands of workers during the past three decades, and the number of victims of work accidents increases every year, due to double profit seeking by employers and lack of supervision by the Ministry of Labor and other responsible government institutions.

Also, preventing the activity of trade unions and labor organizations in workplaces plays an essential role in the annual increase of work accidents and their victims. The capitalists who own these mines, due to the relationships and influence they have in the judiciary and the government, never take the basic measures to protect the lives of the workers seriously, and due to the regime's support for them, they also ignore the laws of the Islamic Republic. This tragedy is not the first time that it has happened, and it will not be the last until a mass protest is formed by the mine workers and their survivors along with the support of other workers.

The Left Party of Iran expresses its condolences to the families of the victims, to the working class and to all those who are saddened by the loss of fifty-one workers in the coal mine and considers the Islamic Republic to be the main responsible for this tragedy. We want the perpetrators of this tragedy to be tried in a public court, to pay full restitution for the damages and to provide for the lives of the survivors and the injured of this tragedy. In a regime that does not value the life of the worker and does not even respect its own laws, the frequent repetition of these tragedies has not changed the behavior of the regime and employers. It is the workers themselves who must force the law-breaking employers and their regime sponsors to provide safety and health equipment and their rights by forming a union and their desired organization in the workplaces and put an end to such tragedies.
