The Fall of Bashar al-Assad's Dictatorship, a Potency of a New Beginning for the Syrian People, a Failure of Khamenei's "Axis of Resistance"!

With the fall of Bashar al-Assad, the dictatorship of the Assad family in Syria ended after 54 years. The regime that had ruled the fate of this country with bloodshed and repression since 1970 collapsed within a few days after the military aid of the Islamic Republic and Russia was cut off after 13 years of civil war and the murder and slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people. Bashar al-Assad, who had managed to stay in power through repression and relying on the support of the Islamic Republic and Russia, finally collapsed with the first blow from the forces opposing his regime. After the resurgence of "Tahrir al-Sham" and the support of the Erdogan government, within 12 days, major cities in the country fell one after another, without resistance from Assad's military forces. Assad's supporters despaired of the possibility of preserving him and withdrew their forces. Eventually, the Syrian army itself declared the end of Assad's rule, and his prime minister announced his readiness to transfer power. The dictatorship of the Assad family was consigned to history. The Syrian people celebrated the fall of Bashar al-Assad with celebrations and dancing.

In their first statement, the Islamist rebels called the fall of Assad “the end of a dark era and the beginning of a new era” and promised that in “a new Syria everyone will live in peace and justice will prevail.” Of course, it is still too early to predict the fate and future of Syria with the statements and words of the Islamist conquerors who have so far defended the Islamic state.

The fall of the Assad regime showed that no regime is able to remain enduring by relying solely on repression and with any amount of foreign support, and the day will come when it collapses like a paper tiger. Now, at the end of more than five decades of the Assad family dictatorship, what remains is a ruined country, with a bankrupt economy, and more than two-thirds of the people living below the poverty line. In just the past 13 years, many cities have been destroyed, hundreds of thousands have been massacred, and millions are living in refugee camps.

The fall of Bashar al-Assad will change the balance of power in the region and is a major blow to the “axis of resistance” of the Islamic Republic regime and Khamenei himself. An axis that is practically collapsing after Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon and the weakening of Hamas and Hezbollah. Khamenei's "strategic depth" policy, with all the heavy costs it has imposed on our country and after the deaths of thousands of deployed forces, has, as could be predicted, completely failed. It has wasted the regime's tens of billions of dollars in investment in Syria, along with the cost of deploying its proxy forces, and has achieved nothing but defame and incite hostility among the Syrian people against our country. It is no coincidence that the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first places to be attacked by angry people.

The Left Party of Iran considers the fall of Bashar al-Assad as good news for the entire region. We congratulate the Syrian people on the overthrow of the Assad family dictatorship and hope that the fall of Bashar al-Assad will end the dark rule of dictatorship and civil war in this country and will enable a transition to democracy in Syria with the active participation of all Syrian political and civil forces, along with respecting the rights of all political and religious groups. We believe that at this moment, dialogue between different forces and establishing coordination between them towards a transition to a democratic system is a vital necessity. Active involvement of the United Nations and a sense of responsibility on the part of regional and international powers can prevent conflict between different factions in Syria and the revival of dictatorship in other forms, and it can pave the way for the reconstruction of the country on the path to ensuring security and freedom.
