The Islamic Republic has tied continuation of its existence to the suppression and murder of opponents, and from the day it came to power until today, it has not stopped killing. In 2024 alone, with 901 executions, it ranked first in the world in terms of population. Currently, fifty-four people have been sentenced to death on political charges: Pakhshan Azizi, Varisheh Moradi, Babak Alipour, Pouya Ghobadi Bistuni, Abbas Weis, Abbas (Mojahed) Korkur and Behrouz Ehsani are among them.
By issuing death sentences, the Islamic Republic has shown that it considers repression and killing vital to its survival. Those sentenced to death, including two Kurdish women, Pakhshan Azizi and Varisheh Moradi, are victims of this regime’s judicial system. A regime that wants to continue its shameful existence by suppressing women, ethnicities, nationalities, and dissidents, does not know that these crimes will also strengthen the people’s motivation to bury this corrupt and oppressive system. If until now the Islamic Republic committed crimes to instill fear and terror in the hearts of the fighters, today the regime itself and its repressive forces are terrified of the people and commit crimes out of fear.
Execution is a clear violation of the right to life and a weapon for the massacre of opponents and dissidents. The struggle to abolish the death penalty is not only a defense of these two women and other death row prisoners, but also a defense of human dignity and resistance to the criminal policies of the Islamic Republic.
The Left Party of Iran, expressing its disgust at the execution of Pakhshan Azizi, Varisheh Moradi, and other political prisoners sentenced to death, calls on international organizations, human rights organizations, and all those with a conscience not to remain silent and to take action to save the lives of these two compatriots and other prisoners sentenced to death, by any means they deem possible.
We call on leftist parties and organizations, pro-democracy political movements, human rights associations, and all people who abhor death and crime to unite their struggles. Our separate voices cannot create much of an obstacle to the unbridled aggression of the ruling tyranny. National solidarity is needed to stop the executions that are being carried out on a national scale in all parts of Iran, from Kurdistan to Sistan and Baluchestan, from Khuzestan to Azerbaijan, from Lorestan to Tehran. This solidarity is not possible without the will of all the left and democratic opposition forces. Only this solidarity can break the barrier of fragmentation against the invasion of tyranny and pave the way for joint action against these executions and to put an end to them.
