Ceasefire is in Favour of the Iranian People!

Ceasefire is in Favour of the Iranian People!

Today, after 12 days of war with Israel and the United States, a ceasefire was declared. We welcome this ceasefire and cessation of hostilities and consider it an opportunity to alleviate the suffering of the people and serve the return to life. We have repeatedly emphasized that the main victims of every war are the people. War destroys the fruits of people's labor and their lives. regimes are damaged and weakened in war, but they can generally silence the voices of the wounded and weakened people. Every war silences people's demand for justice from the very beginning, and at the end of it, a long time must pass before people can come forward to voice their demands.

Today's ceasefire, although a necessary and positive step, does not mean the end of the war. If this ceasefire fails to lead to negotiations and agreement, it will lead to war. Therefore, we call for continuation and strengthening of the path of negotiations so that the ceasefire leads to a lasting peace. To achieve peace, at least the costly and unnecessary nuclear enrichment program must be abandoned on the one hand, and the sanctions, which are the main burden on the people, must be lifted on the other.

While the Iranian people are counting the minutes in fear and hope for the end of the war, we are witnessing the activities of some political forces whose hostility towards the Islamic Republic has led them to side with the war. These forces, in the name of overthrowing the regime, without valuing the lives of the people, are actually supporting the continuation of the war. By opposing the ceasefire and trying to discredit the path of peace, they are prioritizing their political interests over the suffering of the Iranian people. We condemn this approach by any force and emphasize that no goal, even the overthrow of the ruling dictatorial regime, should be pursued through foreign intervention at the cost of people's lives. A government built by the American and Israeli bombers will be no better, if not more dangerous to the people than the Islamic Republic in every respect.

Undoubtedly, the most important problem after the war will be the people's livelihood, which had led them to protest and strike even before the war began. The struggle for the people's livelihood must be continued and expanded, but at present, protecting the lives of political prisoners is our most urgent national duty. Experience has shown that dictatorial regimes after the war generally resort to repression to intimidate society and demonstrate their power. They launch mass arrests. They carry out executions and murders under various pretexts, including espionage. This is what the Islamic Republic is trying to do. The mass killing of political prisoners in prison occurred in 1988 after the Iran-Iraq war. After this war, this danger from a regime that has tens of thousands of deaths on its record is likely. Political prisoners are among the most sophisticated, combative, and courageous people in society who are captives of the regime. Therefore, it is important that the fight for the immediate and unconditional release of political prisoners be an urgent matter for all freedom-seekers and that society be vigilant and sensitive to the regime's treatment of prisoners.

The Left Party of Iran, which is fighting to end the Islamic Republic and establish a secular democratic republic, believes that it is in a peaceful atmosphere that social movements, including labor, women, ethnic and national, teachers, students, and environmental movements, etc., can grow and pave the way for freedom.

We call on all freedom-loving forces, human rights defenders, and peace advocates inside and outside the country to intensify the struggle to pressure all parties to adhere to the ceasefire and move towards a lasting peace, while simultaneously working to lift sanctions and stop the repressive and anti-people policies of the Islamic Republic.
