Message of the Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) to the Eleventh Congress of the Iraqi Communist Party in Baghdad

Dear comrades,

On behalf of the Central Council of the Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian), we would like to extend our warmest congratulations on the occasion of the 11th National Congress of the Iraqi Communist Party to the representatives of the Congress and all Iraqi communists. We wish success to your Congress for the challenges facing the Iraqi people in achieving peace, democracy and social justice.

Your party boycotted the last October's elections in protest of the anti-democratic system in Iraq. It is comprehensible to us that the Iraqi communists and other democratic forces are fighting to change and putting an end to the system of ethnic-sectarian division of power, to counter the spread of political sectarianism and corruption, to achieve a democratic and civil alternative and to establish social justice. We understand your efforts to strengthen national unity and to restore the sovereignty of the republic of free citizens of the country, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, gender or creed. We recognize your strong pursue of the independence of your country. We express our deep solidarity with these goals to you, the members of the Congress, and the Iraqi Communist Party, and to all progressive forces in your country.

Dear comrades,

The Iraqi Communist Party is facing serious challenges in pursuing its democratic and just goals. Sectarian violence, ethnic and religious conflicts, the presence of semi-militant armed forces in the country and the rivalry between them, the involvement of some of those forces in the political affairs have made the lives of Iraqi people more insecure and the political transformation to exit the current crisis, more difficult. The presence of foreign forces in the country as well as the intervention of the neighboring countries have worsened the existing instable situation. Under such circumstances, the struggle for a better future requires a difficult balance between fighting the anti-democratic, anti- unity sectarian and religious forces on the one hand, and the struggle against Imperialistic policies, on the other hand.

Your country, Iraq, and our, Iran, are in a difficult situation in many ways. While each party is addressing the problems and crisis in their respected countries, but the joint and multifaceted struggle of your party and us, as the forces of the left, in responding to the theoretical issues of the left on one hand, and the joint confrontation with regional issues, exchange of ideas, finding common grounds and cooperation in this regard, on the other hand, is of great significance and they can play an important role in our confrontation with future political trends.

At its recent congress in November, our party stressed the sensitive and dangerous situation in the region and in Iran, given the stalemate in the Vienna talks. On the one hand, the current tense foreign policy of the Islamic Republic, which has led to the blockade and isolation of Iran, and on the other hand, the continuation of US sanctions have darkened the atmosphere of dialogue between the two countries. The consequences of this blockade could extend beyond Iran's borders and it can possibly engulf the entire region.

The Islamic Republic not only has involved our country with sanctions and threats at the international levels, but also in the domestic arena, it has faced super-socio-economic crises and has made life unbearable for the people of Iran. Continuation of this callous policy in the region in the form of defending the "axis of resistance", the interference in neighboring countries affairs and conflicts in the region, including Lebanon and Syria, arming and strengthening its affiliated militias in various countries is contrary to Iran's national interest and the establishment of reciprocal relations with other countries and neighbors.

We condemn the continued nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic, which so far, have not benefited Iran in achieving energy sources. Those activities have isolated the country and caused imposed harsh sanctions which put the pressure on the people, especially workers and toilers. Today, the conflict over this project has exposed our country and the region to military threats, unpredictable tensions and even the threat of war. We believe that our region more than ever needs peace, security, and nonviolence, anti-war efforts.

The Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) is enthusiastically looking at the steps taken by the Iraqi Communist Party to form a front of Iraqi progressive and justice-seeking forces. We also do our utmost efforts to work with the Iraqi Communist Party and other left and progressive parties in the region to achieve a nuclear weapons-free Middle East, and for lasting peace and prosperity for the people in the region.

Dear comrades,

Once again, we sincerely wish success to the National Congress of the Iraqi Communist Party in Baghdad and we hope that the just goals of your Congress in achieving peace in the region and the provision of happiness and welfare to the Iraqi people will be realized in practice, and that the resolutions of your Congress will pave the way for progress in this direction.

Greetings,

International Relations office of the Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian)
