A letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNICEF

Women, youths and different strata of people from all cities of Iran play an active and significant role in the widespread and nationwide protests in Iran with the slogan, "Woman, Life, Freedom". These protests, which initially started in opposition to the mandatory hijab, have continued with the strong potential of opposing all forms of discrimination and the demand for freedom and asking for a decent life for young people and all sections of society.

Recently, young students in different cities of the country have joined the protests. The female students declared their solidarity with the teachers' movement and the recent protests by removing their hijab and shouting slogans in the schools and streets of the city along with the male students.

The repressive forces of the regime have attacked protesting schools and students in different cities. Based on the report by the "Teachers' Union Organizations", and the videos sent from Iran, a significant number of students have been arrested with excessive force and violence. According to the Ministery of Education, those arrested have been transferred to the "Reformation and Education Center". Such organization belongs to Orphan children, and also some students have been transferred to temporary detention centers. During the demonstration, according to Amnesty International, 20 under age children have been killed while many more have been injured.

We are deeply concerned about the situation of these arrested teenagers and children. We are strongly requesting you to follow the situation of these children. In addition, we would like you to warn the Islamic Republic that the repression of students is against the international convention and demand the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.

With respect,

Office of International Relations

Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian)
