We Condemn the Bombing and Killing of People in Kerman

January 3, 2024

Today, at around 3:00 PM, during the fourth anniversary of Qassem Soleimani's death, near his burial place, two explosions took place in Kerman with an interval of 20 minutes. According to the statistics of Kerman emergency chief, which was announced an hour after the explosion, 103 people were killed and 211 people were injured. The explosions happened near the Sahib al-Zaman Mosque. Regarding the nature of this incident, the country's official authorities have expressed contradictory statements. Until now, no group has taken responsibility for the bombings and killings of the people of Kerman. But some officials of the Islamic Republic have pointed finger at Israel as the perpetrator and responsible for this terrorist operation, and Ali Khamenei and after him a number of other regime leaders have promised to take revenge on its perpetrators. Undoubtedly, this terrorist operation is worrying in the tense conditions of the region and can lead to more tension and conflicts in the region and in the country and have unpleasant consequences for the people of Iran and some other countries in the region.

Qassem Soleimani was the commander of the Quds Force and was responsible for implementing the most important adventurous and costly interventionist policies of the Islamic Republic in the region for two decades. He played an effective and decisive role in organizing pro-Islamic Republic militia forces in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. After his assassination by the Trump administration, the Islamic Republic made a lot of efforts to use this story for its own propaganda and political purposes.

Today's explosion and its heavy casualties showed that, on the one hand, how vulnerable the Islamic Republic is despite its propaganda claims, and on the other hand, it revealed the irresponsibility and weakness of the regime in protecting human lives and claiming to provide security to citizens. Human lives have always been worthless for the Islamic Republic. The regime does not just send the opponents to the death squad, but also does not feel responsible for the lives of ordinary citizens. Today, a massacre occurred on this scale, and four years ago during Soleimani's funeral, 59 people lost their lives and 213 were injured due to the regime's irresponsibility.

The Left Party of Iran considers this terrorist operation, which resulted in the killing and wounding of many people during the fourth anniversary of the death of Qassem Soleimani, as a criminal act and strongly condemns it. Qassem Soleimani's role and destructive performance as the commander of the Quds Force in creating insecurity in the region and inside the country does not justify killing people. We express our deep disgust for the killing and wounding of the people who lost their lives in this inhumane act, and we offer our condolences to the families of the victims. We also express our concern about the regime’s use of this terrorist act to take revenge on the fighters and political opponents of the regime, who had no role in today's terrorist attack in Kerman, and we warn about its consequences.
