The missile attacks on Israel by the Islamic Republic, following the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, have heightened the risk of our country becoming further entangled in tension and war. Everyone is now awaiting the Israeli government’s response and the subsequent consequences. These mutual reactions can take on more destructive and dangerous forms. Although the recent missile strikes by the Islamic Republic did not cause significant damage in Israel, the very transformation of the covert conflict between two hostile and criminal governments into an overt one has increased the potential for expanded military actions against each other it can plunge the people of the region into even more war and destruction.
The right-wing Israeli government, which in just the past year has killed over 42,000 people with its continuous attacks on Gaza, destroying children, women, civilians, and even hospitals, has now also turned Lebanon into a constant battlefield. It has bombarded Hezbollah leaders, cadres, civilians, women, children, and medical centers in Lebanon under the pretext of Hezbollah's presence. In recent days, nearly two thousand Lebanese have been killed, thousands injured, and millions displaced. While world leaders were attending the UN General Assembly, and Western governments were negotiating ceasefires, the right-wing Israeli government was bombing Beirut to assassinate Hezbollah commanders and their leader Hassan Nasrallah and preparing for wider attacks on this country. Now, not only the south but all of Lebanon is caught in the vortex of war and massacre. The Israeli army issues evacuation orders for new areas every day. In such times, the U.S. government allocates billions of dollars in financial and military aid to Israel to continue the war in the region, and the foreign ministers of the seven Western industrialized countries issue statements, emphasizing the myth of the "right to self-defence," thereby endorsing the crimes of the Israeli government. In practice, the "right to self-defence" has turned into a code word to justify the crimes of one of the most war-mongering governments in the world, which with this pretext, bombards schools, hospitals, and even United Nations-affiliated institutions and their staff.
There is no doubt that the Islamic Republic's policies of "destroying Israel" and "strategic depth" and its blind hostility towards the U.S. and Israel are factors in increasing instability, dragging our country into regional crises, and damaging our relations with neighbours and several countries around the world. The presence of the Islamic Republic and its affiliated militias in the region, in addition to imposing huge costs, poses a threat to the security of the country and the people of Iran. The way to end these adventurist policies is to overthrow a regime that, since its inception, has fueled regional crises with its ideological and interventionist policies and has helped the most right-wing factions in Israel maintain their aggressive policies. Iran as a powerful country in the region must defend peace and security in the Middle East.
The Left Party of Iran, expressing deep disgust and concern over the expansion of war and massacres by the right-wing Israeli government in the region, believes that the main source and context of the conflict in Palestine and Lebanon is Israel's refusal to recognize the basic rights of the Palestinian people to establish their state within the legally recognized borders by the United Nations, the continued illegal occupation of Palestine, the systematic discrimination against a nation, and the decades-long suppression and humiliation of that nation, which has been endorsed and justified by global powers, particularly the U.S. as Israel's main accomplice. These aggressive policies and their continuation provide the necessary fuel for Islamic fundamentalist states and movements, including and especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, to justify their interventionist and expansionist presence under the guise of "defending Palestine" and "resisting imperialism," while using the pretext of "liberating Jerusalem" and "eradicating Israel" to legitimize their oppression and killing of their people. The only way to end the war and bloodshed is for the supporters of Israel, especially the U.S. and Israel itself, to accept the two-state solution and ensure the independence and security of the Palestinian people, as well as de-escalating relations between the two nations. The United Nations must declare a ceasefire, stop Israel's aggressive war in Gaza and Lebanon, and call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian lands.
