Dark regimes of repression and murder always represent themselves by insulting the symbols, signs, and enduring figures of a country's political, literary, and artistic movements. Now, thugs advocating the return of the Pahlavi dictatorship and tyranny, like their Predecessor regime in Tehran, have stormed Saedi's grave in Pere Lachaise to show that if they come to power, the breaking of Shamloo's tombstone and the murder of writers will continue even after the Islamic Republic is gone.
Gholamhossein Saedi, with his puissant talent, was one of the most influential writers of the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s in our country. Wherever he was, he opened a new atmosphere with his words. His position in the literature, theater and cinema of our country is unrivalled and enviable. In the early 1970s, at the height of Saedi’s creativity, the Pahlavi regime arrested and tortured him and published his interrogation in the name of an interview to discredit him, but it failed. The Islamic Republic regime made his conditions so difficult that he was forced into exile. In Pere Lachaise, the resentment against Saedi is still alive in the hearts of defenders of the return to the dark Pahlavi era. Saedi’s voice, decades after his death, is still a cause of concern for defenders of dictatorship and repression.
The Left Party of Iran considers the desecration of Gholamhossein Saedi’s grave another sign of the conflict between the perpetrators of repression and supporters of dictatorship and tyranny with freedom, culture and thought in Iran, and strongly condemns the disrespect of the anti-cultural mercenaries, whether they are supporters of the return to the Pahlavi regime or defenders of the Islamic Republic regime. We call on all freedom-loving and progressive forces to stand against such heinous and inhumane acts and support all efforts to confront such fascist acts. In this regard, we welcome the action of political and cultural activists in Paris to gather at the grave of Gholamhossein Saedi (Gohar Morad) and shower flowers on his tomb on Sunday, December 29, 2024, and other efforts in these contexts.
