We Condemn the Execution of Ruhollah Zam!

Today, Ruhollah Zam was executed and the Islamic Republic once again showed that its killing machine could not stop. He was charged with various types of espionage in favor of the Israeli and French intelligence services, collaborating with the US government and participating in the collection of classified information. He was sentenced to death in the court for thirteen of the charges. However, from the regime officials’ perspective, the central issue in this scandalous case, was his revelations against the regime and his role in the January uprising.

After leaving Iran, Ruhollah Zam launched the “Amad News” channel, which received a large audience with the publication of news from within the regime, which in many cases was fed by elements of the regime and the regime's security institutions. Reliable news along with false news was able to attract a lot of attention.

Ruhollah Zam was deceived into Iraq in September last year and in cooperation with the Iraqi government, was abducted by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and taken to Iran. He was repeatedly televised to confess.

Ruhollah Zam was brought up in the Islamic Republic system. His execution is primarily a desperate message to the people protesting in January 2017 and October 2019 to intimidate them. On the other hand, it was a message to the forces inside the regime as well. With this execution, the Islamic Republic warns its internal elements about the punishment for leaving the regime and exposing them, wherever they are, they are not immune from punishment.

The Islamic Republic is on the verge of collapse and is becoming more unbalanced as time goes on, bringing the society to the brink of explosion with its conspiratorial actions. The execution of Ruhollah Zam is one of the executions that was carried out out of fear and wretchedness. This "saber-rattling" is a manifestation of the position of weakness. While the regime's security system has not yet been able to cover up the humiliation of Fakhrizadeh's assassination in areas under the control of the IRGC in front of the eyes of the people of Iran and the world and the issue of infiltration at the head of the security organs is hot in the parliament and in the government, they execute Ruhollah Zam to show their false saber-rattling.

The Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) condemns the kidnapping and execution of Ruhollah Zam. We want the death penalty to be abolished. Execution is a tool in the hands of the ruling dictators to impose oppression and repression on society. Let us try to stop the machine of repression and execution in the Islamic Republic through the joint and united work of political organizations, civil society organizations, human rights activists and all those who respect human dignity. At the same time, we warn all the regime’s agents who are involved in kidnapping, arrest, torture, television interviews, trials, executions, or imprisonments of dissidents and critics, lest they think that their role in these crimes will be forgotten. Society records all these acts in its memory and when that is not so far away, it will bring the perpetrators of repression to justice and will not accept any excuses. We call on all human rights advocates and civil society institutions to emphasize on their struggle for human rights, the abolition of the death penalty and an end to repression and killing.

With sincere greetings, as you notice in the attached statement, the Islamic Republic has executed Ruhollah Zam. It is important to note that the Iranian authorities invited Ruhollah to visit Iraq, abducted him from there and took him to Iran.

We ask you, dear comrades, to ask the Iraqi government officials to explain about the kidnapping that led to the execution of this person. We condemn any execution or kidnapping.
