The workers of several project and contract companies of the oil company went on strike on October 10 for solidarity and support of the protest movement. On October 11, the workers of the oil refining company in the Abadan refinery also announced their solidarity and support for the people's movement. Yesterday, the workers on strike at the site of Assaluye and Kangan by chanting the slogan "Death to the dictator" showed that their demands this time are beyond the trade union demands and that the way to achieve their demands is to join the people's protest movement and the joint struggle for bringing down the dictatorial regime. The Haft Tappe Workers' Union issued a statement supporting the strike of petrochemical workers in Assaluye and called on all workers to go on strike to support the movement and get rid of poverty, injustice and discrimination.
The strike of parts of the oil company workers shows that there is a ground for expanding the protest and strike among other workers and the general wage and salary earners to accompany the people's movement.
In the past years, workers and teachers have shown their dissatisfaction with the living and working conditions by conducting thousands of strikes and protests against the policies of the regime and its affiliated employers. The Islamic Republic, which is worried about workers and wage earners joining the people's protest and revolutionary movement, is trying to prevent the formation of more strikes and transcending to a general strike by arresting the leaders and activists of independent labor organizations and threatening and suppressing them. During the past few weeks, dozens of labor activists and teachers, including a number of striking workers, have been arrested in Assaluye. The Protest Organizing Council of Oil Contract Workers also announced that the security forces arrested a number of Assaluye petrochemical workers yesterday.
The left party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) welcomes the action of the striking workers in Assaluye and Abadan and their joining the national liberation movement of the people and emphasizes that the strike of the workers in various fields will strengthen the protest movement and put the regime in a weak position. As long as the regime of the Islamic Republic rules the country and freedom and democracy are not established in the country, workers and wage earners will not be able to defend their rights deservedly. The "Women, Life, Freedom" movement has provided a historic opportunity for the transition from the Islamic Republic. Let us join it and do not miss this historic opportunity.
