We Support the Haft Tappeh Workers’ Struggle for their Rights!

The true struggle of the workers of the Haft Tappeh Industrial-Agricultural Complex for trade union rights and the ousting of the complex owner Omid Asadbeigi has entered a new phase. The case of this embezzler has now been filed and the eviction plan has been submitted to the jury. If the struggles for the rights of the Haft Tappeh workers and their revelations of numerous corruptions and violations had not taken place during the transfer of Haft Tappeh at a low price and the corruptions after the transfer, as well as its reflection by a few daring journalists seeking justice, these astronomical lootings, like similar cases, would have been remained in the veil of ambiguity. At present, the final fate of this case is tied to the continuation of the workers' struggle against the looting of public properties and destructive and predatory privatizations. The delay of the court and the arbitral tribunal in issuing the final verdict on Asadbeigi and the eviction case, despite the many violations committed during the transfer of Haft Tappeh, indicate the unwillingness to cancel the privatization and the regime's support for the principle of privatization policy, which has advanced in the Islamic Republic, that is, the auction of public property and the continuation of this destructive policy.

The Haft Tappeh Workers' Union has rightly stated in this regard that "Whatever the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane has achieved so far has occurred through the efforts and perseverance of the workers and the support of those who have suffered from the same pain and have the same demands. The workers clearly see that their issues will not be resolved by the various institutions of the regime and their disputes over how to run the Haft Tappeh. Because none of their solutions removes the ominous shadow of job insecurity from the workers. That is why they want the dismissal of the private sector employer only in the presence of the workers and their independent representatives and in connection with the implementation of their other demands, not behind the closed doors of a regime arbitration body and outside the workers' presence and will."

The jury's reluctance to announce its decision on the eviction request, which was due to take place on December 23, indicates its unwillingness to return Haft Tappeh and other privatized institutions to the public sector under the control of the government. However, despite the corruption and embezzlement that took place during the handover of Haft Tappeh to Omid Asadbeigi, it is difficult for them not to oppose his ouster. They will do their best to hand over the Haft Tappeh to another of their supporters. That is why it is still the workers and their supporters who can pursue their demands by learning from their experiences so far and continuing their fight against the looters of public properties.

The workers' struggle against privatization of Haft Tappeh and other ceded units is in fact part of the people's struggle against corruption and looting of public properties by the regime agents and their affiliates and in defense of public rights. This fact shows that other groups who oppose the waste of the country's capital, support the Haft Tappeh workers to achieve their demands and put pressure on the regime to punish the looters of national capital.

The Left Party of Iran (People’s Fadaian) once again appreciates the valuable and true struggles of the hard-working Haft Tappeh workers for their rights and the abolition of privatization and declares its support for them. We also call on the workers and wage earners, justice seekers and libertarians to take part in the struggle of the Haft Tappeh workers to oust Asadbeigi and return his ownership to the public sector with the participation of the workers and their independent representatives and to punish the corrupt and embezzler proprietor of Haft Tappeh.
