Word of the Month
Thousands die crossing the Mediterranean Sea, and the numbers are growing.
There are refugees due to political or security causes and there are economic migrants.
There are also climate refugees due to severe changes in nature. This results in the ever-growing number of this type of asylum seekers.
Thousands of mostly African origin people try to reach Europe by crossing the Mediterranean Sea every year in crowded unsafe boats. Many of them lose their lives in doing so. The numbers are growing by each passing day.
The dire picture above is half of the harsh reality as we are witness to ever-growing number of millions displaced internally or in nearby countries, also mostly of African origins.
There is no easy and straight forward solution for this calamity but the starting point could and must be accepting the punitive reality and facts. These refugees are a distinct group. Finding a solution to this problem must be on the agenda of all progressive organisations.
