We Condemn the Turkish Army Attack on the "People's Defense Units" and Declare our Solidarity with the Kurdish and Arab Fighters!
Turkish army once again under the name of "fighting terrorism" and providing "security" of Turkey's border has started widespread attacks against Kurdish and Arab forces’ positions in northern Syria and consequently dispatched its armored forces inside Syria. According to reports, the Turkish armed forces and the so-called "Syrian National Army" have entered "Ras al-Ayn " and "Tal Abyad". Turkey says it has killed 109 of Kurds. This operation started after the agreement between Donald Trump and Erdogan and announcement of the withdrawal of the US forces from Syria. Syrian Kurdish forces believe they have been betrayed by allowing Turkey to crack down on them.
Kurdish forces that are the prime target of the Turkish army had the main role in the defeat of the "Islamic State" (ISIL) in Syria. They lost more than eleven thousands of their forces and are still fighting the remnants of the ISIL in that country. They have been a key ally of the US in Syria, but were left alone under the Turkish army knife overnight.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday called for restraint on both sides and stressed that Syrian issues have no military solution. The European Union called for an immediate end to the Turkish operation in northern Syria, and threatened Turkey of cutting off funding. The Arab League strongly condemned the attack and called for an immediate halt to it.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan started consolidating power in Turkey with showdown against the Kurds in the country, stopping negotiation with them and increasing repression in the Kurdish areas and arrested and imprisoned his critics by accusing them of supporting "terror" and "terrorism". Subsequent to the failed coup attempt against him, by declaring state of emergency, he started widespread arrests and trials under the terrorism. Tens of thousands of political and civil society activists, academics, lawyers, judges, civil servants, journalists and parliamentarians were arrested with false accusations and were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. In Erdogan’s war against his opponents, war against Kurds has a unique place that has no border. Thus, attacking Syrian Kurds and regions under their control in the Northern Syria is one of Erdogan’s priorities.
The Left Party of Iran (People's Fadaian) strongly condemns the Turkish military operations against the "People's Defense Units" in Syria. We express our solidarity with the Kurdish and Arabs fighters and people in the Northern Syria who have been under attack by the Turkish military and armed forces. We join all freedom fighters across the globe to support Kurdish and Arab fighters’ resistance against the Turkish invasion. We call on peace-loving forces and human rights defenders in the region and the world to ask for an immediate halt to the brutal attacks of the Turkish government.
